Birth with Confidence: Understanding Physiology for an Empowering Journey.

Understanding simple birth physiology is crucial during your birthing journey for several reasons.

Firstly, birth is hard work. However, it can also be a truly exhilarating experience if you are able to fully connect with your body and embrace the powerful sensations it brings. By understanding the physiological processes occurring during the three stages of labour, you can achieve this state of awareness and confidence.

Secondly, most of us generally thrive when we feel in control, and this is no different in the context of birth. When you have an understanding of what is happening within your body, you become less reliant on others to guide you. While support from care providers can be valuable and reassuring, in the majority of births, the birthing person is best equipped to determine their needs and what feels right for them. It is worth noting that routine examinations and interventions may not always be what you need as an individual to be able to welcome your baby to the world safely and positively. Interpretations based on general expectations can also be detrimental if you are unable to advocate for yourself based on your own feelings and perceptions of progress.

To fully tune in and establish a sense of control, confidence is essential. And in my opinion, confidence can only be gained through knowledge. However, it's not necessary to read countless books or attend numerous classes, because although there are many complex changes happening within your body as it prepares to release baby out to the world, the sensations and signs of progress are often easily recognisable, and the movements and positions are incredibly instinctive. However, for that to happen, you must be able to relax and enter a state of flow.

Knowledge = Confidence = Control = Calm = Positive Birth!

Many people still hold onto the belief that birth is inherently painful and that there is no need to learn anything more about it. However, if you are seeking an empowering birth experience, it is important to challenge this belief. In my Complete Birth Preparation Programme, we break down and reframe this perception, replacing it with simple knowledge about physiology and biomechanics that empowers you to take control of your birth journey from the first signs of labour starting to the moment you hold your baby in your arms and beyond.
